This is a self-contained electronic keyboard, meaning it has the keyboard and its own loudspeakers. Current models have a USB connection so it’s easy to hook up to your PC. These keyboards usually have some features to ‘help’ you, such as an arranger feature where you play a tune and it supplies chords. For me these quickly become irrelevant.

I had a Roland EM-10 (pretty much entry level for them) which I loved, but had to leave behind when I emigrated.

Pros

You can play it without your PC connected.Medium space needed, medium price.Better sound than the PC provides. Can use with an older computer because the keyboard is doing all the sound work.

Costs a bit more than a controller

Takes up a bit more space, less portable
